EAA Witness Compact, Steel frame, 10mm

The things to like about this gun are great: The finish looks very good (Wonder finish,) the ergonomics are great, it shoots very well and the recoil is very manageable for a 10mm. The trigger on my example is really pretty good for a factory job... not as good as my Sig's come from the factory (for twice the money, and no 10mm available,) but it is good enough. The double-action is not too heavy, and the single action breaks moderately crisply. For the money, I don't think I could ask for a better trigger from the factory. The Compact version is a pretty easy carry, and hides reasonably well in a paddle holster under a shirt-tail, though it is a heavy gun when fully loaded. Anybody wearing this gun will want a sturdy belt to hang it on, or else use a shoulder holster. On the first day of shooting, the example I got jammed about every 5th round with 3 kinds of ammunition (always feeding issues, no “stove-pipes” or extraction issues) and the recoil spring seems just a little weak, sometimes pulling the slide forward slowly enough to hear it too long after the previous shot (although that might go away if I can fix the feeding issue.) The magazine that came with my gun does not appear to be designed to accept 15 rounds (I can squeeze in 12 rounds, maybe it will "break in" over time? Or maybe I got a magazine intended for California? I loaded only 10 rounds for shooting, since the extra spring pressure might make feeding problems even worse.) I like this gun well enough to tinker with it a bit, perhaps polishing the feed ramp, maybe even chamfering the chamber edges a little (though I will talk to EAA before I go that far... I also like the limited lifetime warranty, so I don't want to screw that up, and who knows what level of tinkering they will accept?) All in all, right now I would buy this gun again, assuming the feeding issues can be resolved. It's more gun than I expected for the price. When it successfully chambers the next round, it is a real pleasure to shoot.
